He said that Jakarta still relies on waste shipments to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). However, this situation is deemed unsustainable, especially with the implementation of the ban on open dumping starting August 1.
Malaka Jaya Residents Take Part in Waste Sorting Program"We also thank Bekasi Regency and City for their continued support. However, we must be able to manage our own waste by involving all parties," he said, Tuesday (5/5).
He emphasized the importance of cross-stakeholder collaboration to ensure optimal implementation of the household waste sorting initiative.
He assessed that in addition to the role of the government and the community, the involvement of environmental cadres and community activists needs to be strengthened. In fact, engaging the younger generation through influencers is considered an effective strategy for expanding outreach.
"Once again, we ask that all parties be involved. These include cadres, environmental activists, and even youth influencers to help spread this movement through social media," he added.
Wawan also highlighted the importance of targeting all levels of society, including household assistant, who have a role in waste management at the household level.
Wawan emphasized the urgency of reducing the burden on the Bantargebang Landfill, which currently still accommodates a very large amount of waste.
"We want to seriously reduce the burden on Bantargebang, because there are still around 60 million tons of old waste that need to be dealt with," he emphasized.
